Fox announced on Tuesday that New Girl has been renewed for another season – making it the longest-running live-action comedy on the network.

“Every network comedy should aspire to what Liz Meriwether is achieving in New Girl, with its bravura dialogue, inventive and witty performances by the talented cast and emotionally engaging storytelling,” Fox entertainment president David Madden said in a statement. “The series is as creatively strong today as it ever was, we want to congratulate New Girl on reaching its milestone 100th episode and we can’t wait for the next subversive and hilarious chapter of these characters’ lives.”

New Girl – starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone – is the highest-rated comedy on Fox. According to Nielsen’s “Live Plus 3” estimates, the comedy is averaging a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers overall.

Although the network’s American Idol is coming to a close, other shows being picked up for next season includes LuciferRosewood, Empire, Scream Queens, Gotham and Bones.
