‘Emerald City’ Trailer Reveals A Darker Version of ‘Wizard of Oz’

The new fantasy drama darkens and modernizes the familiar tale.

NBC released the first trailer for Emerald City, an upcoming fantasy drama that is based on the Land of Oz book series written by L. Frank Baum.

Adria Arjona portrays Dorothy, and when a tornado blows through her town, she is thrown into a new world along with a K9 police dog. In the land of Oz, she accidentally kills a witch and encounters warring witches and munchkins. She also comes across a “scarecrow” which is a bloodied man hanging from a cross who doesn’t remember his name.

The first season will consist of ten episodes and is set to premiere January 6, 2017. The series also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Gerran Howell, Florence Kasumba, Isabel Lucas, and Mido Hamada.
