Downton Abbey became the highest-rated PBS drama of all time when 24 million viewers tuned in to watch the third season of the show last month.
Downton Abbey‘s third season wrapped up on February 17, 2013 and broke all kinds of records for PBS. The show’s seven week run had an average rating of 7.7 with 11.5 million viewers tuning in each week.
Ratings skyrocketed on Downton Abbey‘s season 3 finale with a 8.1 national rating and an average audience of 12.3 million, making it the highest-rated show on any broadcast or cable network that evening.
“We are so pleased with the loyalty and support U.S. audiences have shown Downton Abbey throughout this season,” said Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton. “We look forward to more great drama and new challenges for the Crawley family in Season 4.”
Season four of Downton Abbey is currently in production and debuts this fall.
