Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ TV Spinoff Gets Premiere Date

Disney announced Wednesday that the Lion King sequel TV series The Lion Guard will premiere on Friday, January 15th.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, a film that serves as a prelude to the new series, debuted last month on the channel and received strong ratings.

The show will follow the adventures of Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, as he and his friends team up to protect the Pride Lands. Rob Lowe and Gabrielle Union will voice Simba and Nala, respectively, and Max Charles will voice Kion.

Blair Underwood, Ana Gasteyer and Maia Mitchell will also be a part of the cast. Jason Marsden, Andy Dick and Lacey Chabert, who voiced characters in the Lion King sequel film The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride will reprise their roles for an episode of the new series.
