Disney Bans Junk Food Ads

The Walt Disney Co. will become the first major media company to ban junk food advertisements on any Disney owned television stations, websites and radio stations to promote better health for our kids.

Disney will make the decision of what should be advertised to our children by having a nutritional standard that must be met.  The approved items will have a Mickey Check seal of approval on future packaging of snacks and beverages.

Although Disney is still under contract with some Ad companies, the Disney health revolution should start showing up around 2015. It’s more than just promoting better health through the Disney characters we all grew up with, but is also a new, clever way of marketing that Disney can profit from.

First Lady Michelle Obama is thrilled about Disney’s nutritional project and saying, “This new initiative is truly a game-changer for the health of our children”. The new Disney nutritional guidelines are said to be extremely successful when compared to the attempts the government has made to solve our nations childhood obesity crisis.

This is not the first time Disney has implemented changes to fight childhood obesity.  For the past few years Disney has had success with placing more nutritional foods in their theme parks as well as cancelling the licensing of Disney characters to McDonald’s “Happy Meals”.
