David Fincher Back With New Netflix Series ‘Mindhunter’

David Fincher is a renowned filmmaker for his visuals and attention to detail with such films as Se7en, The Social Network and Gone Girl. He also helped launch Netflix’s first original scripted series, House of Cards with Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. Now he’s reteaming with the streaming service on Mindhunter, a period drama about the FBI’s elite serial crime unit.

With just a one-minute tease, we aren’t treated to many details; counting the number of cuts in the 60-second clip below might make your head spin.

What we do know is that Fincher and Academy Award winner Charlize Theron are exec. producing the series that will star Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv and Hannah Gross. Fincher will direct the pilot and two more episodes. Other directors include Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A Hijacking, A War) and Andrew Douglas (2005’s The Amityville Horror).

The series is set to debut in October.

Set in 1979, the series centers on the inquisitive and skilled FBI Agent Bill Tench (McCallany). Along with fellow serial killer investigator in the behavioral science unit, FBI agent Holden Ford (Groff), Tench interviews serial killers to help them solve current murders.
