“Dallas” Star Larry Hagman Dies At 81

The iconic actor Larry Hagman, better known as his “Dallas” character J.R. Ewing, has died at the age of 81, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Hagman passed away in Dallas Friday afternoon at a Dallas hospital.

Hagman’s “Dallas” co-star Linda Gray was at his bedside when he passed and issued the following statement : “Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years. He was the pied piper of life and brought joy to everyone he knew. He was creative, generous, funny, loving and talented and I will miss him enormously. He was an original and lived life to the full and the world was a brighter place because of him.”

The Dallas Morning News also reported that members of his family said Hagman died at Medical City Dallas Hospital from complications of his recent battle with cancer.

Hagman had recently been recast as the legendary Ewing in a reboot of the TV series currently airing on the TNT network.

The family issued a statement, saying “Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most. Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.”
