Bill Cosby Loses Television Special, New Show in Wake of Scandal

Due to the recent rape allegations against Bill Cosby, both Netflix and NBC have decided to cancel projects with the comedian that were previously in development.

Netflix was planning to release a comedy special titled Bill Cosby 77 on November 28, but the streaming service made an announcement Tuesday night saying, “At this time we are postponing the launch of the new stand-up comedy special Bill Cosby 77.”

On Saturday Netflix was planning to stream the special. However, over the past few days, the controversy surrounding Cosby grew as more alleged victims gave their testimonies, including former model Janice Dickinson, who publicly stated that she was sexually assaulted by Cosby.

On Wednesday, NBC announced it will no longer continue developing a new sitcom with the comedian.

“We can confirm that the Cosby project is no longer in development,” NBC said.

The television series would have starred Cosby as the head of a multigenerational family who shares his wisdom and experiences with his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.

In addition, TV Land, a cable channel that had been airing reruns of The Cosby Show on weekends, has pulled the sitcom from its schedule. It also scrapped its plans to have marathons of the show, which were meant to air between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Representatives for Cosby have denied the allegations.
