Look out Netflix! Amazon has announced that it will now be making its first original television shows. The five new original series set to air later this year include two comedies and three children’s shows.
Alpha House, Betas, Annebots, Creative Galaxy, and Tumbleleaf were chosen as the five new shows Amazon would develop. The five shows were selected from a pool of fourteen pilots that previously aired on LoveFilm this April. Customers gave feedback on the shows and data was tracked to see how long each show was watched to help Amazon determine which shows would be made into original series.
Due to the announcement of Amazon beginning production of five original television series, competition will increase between Amazon and other video-streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. Netflix has been very successful so far with both its original series, House of Cards and Arrested Development.
Alpha House is a political comedy about four senators,one of which played by John Goodman. Betas is a comedy about four young entrepreneurs and launching a start up in the tech world. Annebots is about a kid scientist and her robots while Creative Galaxy follows the life of an alien artist. Tumbleleaf focuses on a “whimsical fox searching for adventure.”
