Amazon.com has been ordering various pilots for some original series, hoping to find the same success Netflix has found in streaming original programming. The latest pilot order is for a historical drama called Point of Honor from ABC Studios that is about a divided family from Virginia on the night before the beginning of the Civil War.
The series was originally developed for ABC back in 2011. It is written by Carlton Cuse, who was a writer for Lost, and Randall Wallace. Wallace will serve as director. Point of Honor will also be executive produced by Cuse and Barry Jossen, the current head of scripted programming for A&E Studios.
Amazon has many other pilots in the works, which are expected to be available to the public later this year. One show is entitled The Cosmopolitans, a comedy-drama that is written, directed and produced by Walt Stillman that focuses on a group of young Americans living in Paris. Another series, Hand of God ,stars Ron Perlman as a judge wanting vengeance against a rapist who believes he receives messages from God. World War Z’s Marc Forster will direct.
Once these pilots air on Amazon.com, users will be able to comment and rate them to indicated if they would like to see them receive a full series order. If so, the series would become available for streaming on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
