Variety is reporting a script has been ordered by ABC to adapt the film “The Lincoln Lawyer” into a television show.

The script is to be written by “The Lincoln Lawyer” screenwriter John Romano and novelist Michael Connelly, who wrote the 2005 book of the same name. Lionsgate and Lakeshore Entertainment will produce the show.

If this comes to fruition it would be the first time a law movie has ever been adapted into a television show.

For those who did not see the 2011 movie, the main character is criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller, portrayed by Matthew McConaughey. Originally known for defending local low level gang members, Haller gets the case of his career to defend Beverly Hills playboy Louis Roulet, accused of murder. The movie depicts the story of Haller’s battle to prove the innocence of his client while operating his business out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car.

Will the show become a success?

The movie was commercially a success, making over $85 million on a budget of $40 million, but as for a television show I would say no.

Will McConaughey be cast? No word has been said but unless ABC hires an impeccable cast of Hollywood talent, both fresh and veteran, I give the show a season before it is cancelled. I just don’t see audiences finding the story line of a guy riding around in a Lincoln Town Car for half a show to be commanding enough to keep their attention.

How long do you think the show would last?
