Winston Faces Honor Code Violation, NCAA Investigation

A messy season off the field for defending Heisman winner Jameis Winston continued to spiral downward over the weekend.

The Florida State quarterback, who missed the Seminoles’ game against Clemson due to inappropriate behavior, will face punishment on up to four violations of the Florida State University honor code. The violations are related to the much-publicized 2012 incident in which Winston, a freshman at the time, was accused of sexually assaulting a female student.

If found guilty of honor code violations, Winston could be suspended or expelled from the university. This would cut his season short, effectively ending any hopes for another national championship for the Seminoles. In addition, reports surfaced Monday that Winston could be facing an NCAA investigation on charges he sold autographed memorabilia, the same charges which have sidelined Georgia star Todd Gurley indefinitely.  There are over 900 authenticated items that are said to have been signed by Winston.

These transgressions are the latest in a long line of incidents for Winston, who among other things, was caught stealing crab legs from a supermarket and caused thousands of dollars of damage to his apartment complex with a BB gun.

Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher has said he stands by his quarterback and does not expect him to miss any game action. The second-ranked Seminoles host sixth-ranked Notre Dame this Saturday.
