WATCH: NY Giants Jason Pierre-Paul Releases PSA for Firework Safety
It’s only been a year when New York Giants defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul was in a freak accident on Fourth of July weekend. Pierre-Paul was involved in a fireworks accident that cause him to lose one finger and mangled another.
The accident was so bad that the doctors were close to amputating the whole hand! Now, before the holiday, the defensive lineman is been vocal about firework safety.
In the PSA, he goes through the events that occurred that night and onward stating, “So Fourth of July, I lit up a firework, thought I could throw it away real quick and in a split second blew off my whole hand just right there”. “On the way to the hospital, all I could do is think about was my son and was I going to make it? Now I’m just truly, truly blessed to be alive. Now when I look at fireworks I think about the safety”.
JPP shows his mangled hand on camera, showing the dangers of fireworks and how it changed his life.
Since the incident, Pierre-Paul has tried to revive his NFL career. He played in eight games total in 2015, struggling to adjust with one fully functional hand. He would have to wear a club to protect his hand from further injury. He recorded only one sack and 26 tackles.
Being one of the most gifted players in the game changed just like that, and was forced to sign a one year deal with the Giants instead of testing free agency.
Now, Jason Pierre-Paul comes into the 2016-2017 NFL season ready to prove he can still produce like he did before the accident.
