After a tough 2-1 victory over Ecuador in Seattle at CenturyLink Field on Thursday, the U.S. men’s national team is headed to the Copa America Centenario semi-finals!
Clint Dempsey opened the scoring for the USA in the 22nd minute, but it was Dempsey and Gyasi Zardes who worked together as they scored the second goal of the night for the USA in the 65th minute.
According to The Guardian, “This is only the USA’s fourth ever win in the knockout stage of a major tournament. The previous three: the semi-final win over Spain in the 2009 Confederations Cup, the round of 16 triumph over Mexico at the 2002 World Cup and their victory on penalties over Mexico in the 1995 Copa América.”
US will now face either Argentina or Venezuela in the semi-finals in Houston, TX next week on June 21st.
