The U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey team dominated Sweden in a final 6-1 game in the seven-game series. U.S. out-shot Sweden 70-9.
Six different players scored goals for the team, with forward Brianna Decker and defensemen Megan Bozek scoring three points each. The women’s team is on its way to face Canada in the gold-medal final game.
The USA Women’s team has not won gold since 1998, the year the sport debuted at the Winter Games. Since them, the U.S. Team has taken two silvers (2002, 2010) and a bronze (2006), while Canada has gotten gold the past three Olympic games.
Julie Chu, 31, is the oldest player on the team and has played in the past three Olympic games. She announced after the game on Monday, “We’re going for a different color this time around.”
After losing to Canada last week, the U.S. Women’s team decided it was time for a change. Captain Meghan Duggan stated, “We said the other day after our loss against Canada that we felt bad for the team that has to face us on Monday, because we’re going to be a different team.”
The U.S. Women’s team will play Canada for the gold medal on Thursday at noon.
