While NFL teams already have most of the league’s top players accounted for, there are still a few hidden gems out there that currently remain as free agents.
Below are the top 10 available free agents:
- Steve Smith, WR, Panthers: Not long after being released from Carolina on Thursday, Smith was on his way to meet with Baltimore. Tampa Bay, New England and Baltimore are reportedly Smith’s best options.
- Ben Tate, RB, Texans: Not expected to be on the market long, Tate has been vising with the Cleveland Browns. Tate remains the best bet to net the biggest contract for the running back class.
- Jared Allen, DE, Vikings: Over the past seven years Allen has averaged 14.5 sacks, but if interested teams are not willing to give him a fair market value, he may retire.
- Jermichael Finley, TE, Seahawks: Expected to sign with Seattle, an interesting pick for a team that under-utilized the tight end in the passing game.
- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Broncos: Currently the best cornerback on the market. He may not land a lucrative long-term deal, but should eventually get a decent starting spot.
- James Jones, WR, Packers: Jones is reportedly on the radar for the Panthers and Jets. A solid veteran and one of the best remaining big-play makers available.
- Henry Melton, DT, Bears: Melton will be visiting with the Vikings on Thursday. He adds depth to a strong defensive line. While he missed 13 games due to a knee injury, he is one of the top 10 defensive tackles.
- Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants: The Panthers are currently targeting Nicks to replace Steven Smith. Nicks is also meeting with the Colts on Friday.
- Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Steelers: Both Tampa Bay and Jacksonville are currently pursuing Sanders. He is expected to visit with the Chiefs on Friday.
- Michael Vick, QB, Eagles: While Vick is aiming for a starting position, he may have to settle for a roster spot since the market is looking lukewarm for him.
