Tim Tebow Opens Hospital in the Philippines

Tim Tebow has opened the Tebow CURE hospital, a five-story facility, in Davao City, Philippines.

The hospital, built in partnership with CURE International, received its official operating license and opened its doors for the first time this week – while its grand opening is set for spring 2015. With 30 beds and three operating rooms, the hospital has a team of 54 staffers. Physicians are said to be already aiding children with critical orthopedic needs.

Tebow explained that the reason he chose the Philippines for the hospital’s location was because that was where he was born. “I was born in the Philippines while my parents served as missionaries, and I have always had a great love and passion for the Filipino people,” Tebow said in a statement. “It is so exciting to be able to provide healing and care for these incredibly deserving children halfway around the world.”

The football star turned TV analyst, who was one of PEOPLE’s Sexiest Men alive this year, told PEOPLE magazine how much hard work and extensive planning went into opening the hospital.

“We’ve been waiting a long time for it,” said Tebow. “I’m really excited that it’s finally going to happen. We want to provide physical care, but we’ll also provide spiritual and emotional care as well.”

The Tim Tebow Foundation announced plans to build the Tebow CURE Hospital in 2011 during Tebow’s second season with the Denver Broncos.

The Tim Tebow Foundation exists to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.  That mission is being fulfilled every day through the foundation’s five areas of outreach including Team Tebow, Timmy’s Playrooms, Orphan Care, W15H and the Tebow CURE Hospital.
