Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch was fined $50,000 by the NFL after not speaking to the media for over a year.
Randall Liu, an NLF spokesman, expressed in an email to USA Today that “until this past week, the league had been unaware that Lynch had not been speaking.” A requirement in which is bound by contract.
Standard NFL contracts require that players speak with the media by stating, “Players will cooperate with the news media, and will participate upon request in reasonable activities to promote the Club and the League.”
Lynch hadn’t spoken with the media since losing to the Miami Dolphins on November 25, 2012, but on Friday he broke his silence during a post practice interview.
The running back had little to say during his interview, keeping a majority of his answers brief, before ending the conversation after a minute and 23 seconds.
When asked how he felt to have rushed over 1,000 yards for his third consecutive season, he simply replied, “smooth.” When questioned about the upcoming playoff game against the New Orleans Saints Lynch retorted, “ I just hope to win, boss. Thank you. I appreciate it.”
The Seattle Seahawks will host the second round in the divisional playoffs against the New Orleans Saints on Saturday, January 11th at 3:35 PM on Fox.
