It was a wild night for baseball as the Texas Ranger, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, and Kansas City Royals faced elimination. Some teams had a chance, others just blew it!
Lets look at the results for both elimination games of the ALDS:
Texas Ranger – 3 @ Toronto Blue Jays – 6
This is was a crazy one as the Rangers had the chance to close the series in Toronto. Texas looked ready to go toe to toe with the Blue Jays as the game was squared up at two before the seventh inning. Once the seventh inning started it got pretty nuts. A throw back to the pitcher hit Shin-Choo Shoo’s bat causing Rougned Odor to score and give the Rangers a one run lead. Fans couldn’t believe it and preceded to throw debris to the field which caused an 18 minute delay. At the bottom of the seventh Rogers Center exploded as Jose Bautista hit a three run homer that gave the Blue Jays the lead. Tempers flared as benches cleared out, and three errors by the Rangers caused them the game. Now Toronto is going to the American League Championship Series.
Houston Astros – 2 @ Kansas City Royal – 7
In all honesty, the Astros had this series in the bag on Monday. Alas! Tis not the case for Houston as their pitching wasn’t enough for the bats of the Royals. While the Astros scored two runs in the beginning of the game, and pitcher Colin McHugh was solid to start, the Royals begam to heat up. In the fifth, McHugh hit Salvador Perez and gave up a double to Alex Gordon which put two men in scoring position. He was taken out of the game and was replaced by Mike Fiers, who didn’t fair any better. He only lasted one inning. Royals ace Johnny Cueto was the true star of the game delivering one of his best games after he was traded from the Cincinnati Reds.
Now the stage is set for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals to face off! Game one of the American League Championship Series is on Friday, October 16th at 7:30pm CST on FOX!
