(UPDATE) ‘Macho’ Camacho Has Died At 50

UPDATE: Hector “Macho” Camacho has died just days after being removed from life support at the age of 50.

Puerto Rican boxer Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho has been declared clinically brain dead, doctors announced on Thursday, after being shot in the face on Tuesday night.

“We have done everything we could,” said Dr. Ernesto Torres, director of the Centro Medico trauma center in San Juan. “We have to tell the people of Puerto Rico and the entire world that Macho Camacho has died, he is brain dead.”

Camacho will be held on life support until Thursday, when the family must make a decision whether or not they plan to donate his organs. Camacho’s father has already stated he wants to donate the boxer’s organs whereas one of the boxer’s sisters disagrees. His mother also unsure of which decision to make, stating that she would like to still spend some time with her son. The family is still waiting for Camacho’s oldest son to arrive at the hospital so the family can make a decision.

“Let’s remember him as a good man,” said Ismael Leandry, longtime friend and former manager. “He was a good father, a good son.”
