Johnny Manziel in Trouble After Public Dispute With Girlfriend

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was involved in a public dispute with his girlfriend over the weekend that included alcohol according to police.

A witness saw a person trying avoid Manziel’s speeding vehicle and was then pulled over by police. The Browns quarterback admitted to consuming alcohol that night, but claims he was not intoxicated. Manziel was not charged and his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, didn’t press charges.

Johnny was drafted in the first round in 2014, but never fulfilled his potential. The quarterbacks lifestyle interfered with his NFL career and it cost him a starting job with the Cleveland Browns. He was caught by tabloids and paparazzi drinking and partying during and before his football career.

Earlier this year Manziel spent 70 days in a Pennsylvania rehabilitation clinic for reasons unknown. Most believe it had to do with his drinking habits.

Browns General Manager Ray Farmer released a statement saying “It is a matter that we take seriously and have expressed our concerns to Johnny directly. Those conversations will remain private and we will refrain from further comment at this time.”

After the Browns released a statement on the incident, Johnny responded by saying “Colleen and I got into a dumb public argument on the way home Monday afternoon. It probably looked more interesting than it was and I know I would stop and check if I saw a couple arguing on the side of the road. It was embarrassing but not serious and when we talked to the police and they realized everything was alright and I was sober, we went home together and everything is fine.”

Johnny’s status for the Browns home game against the Broncos has not changed, but he could face discipline by the league under its personal-conduct policy.

After Manziel’s rough rookie season last year, he now stands as the second string quarterback behind Josh McCown. Johnny showed flashes of greatness while McCown was down in Week Two, but hasn’t been inserted in to the starting lineup ever since.
