Is The 2014 NBA Draft Class Over-Hyped?
There are mixed opinions on this year’s draft class, many of which believe it’s over-hyped. Whether or not there are “game changers” that will make NBA history or rise to the No. 1 spot, it is still too soon to tell.
Eastern Conference executive stated that, “The mistake that was made in this year’s draft was everything was predetermined before the players had an opportunity to necessarily prove it.”
The hype over this year’s draft has created many skeptics on the prospective players. While they all may be talented, there aren’t any superior players who stand out from the rest, such as LeBron James during the 2003 draft.
So before betting on any players, be cautious. “If you’re just talking about getting a nice shot in the arm, then no, they won’t be disappointed,” the Eastern Conference executive added. But if you bet on having a franchise-changing player, “then you’re probably nervous now.”
Jonathan Givony, president of DraftExpress, believes that though this class may be better in comparison to those from previous years, it still does not live up to the hype. “I think this looks like a solid draft, to put it in the most boring way possible.”
The top three choices for the June 26th draft will most likely end up being freshmen Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Joel Embiid.
While Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins may have declared for the 2014 draft just a week ago, according to ESPN’s Chad Ford, both Embiid and Parker are still “weighing their options.” Sports Center tweeted back in March that Parker has yet to decide on “whether to leave for NBA after this season or return to Duke for sophomore year.”
The deadline for the NBA’s early entry is April 27th.
