Carlos Gomez Homers in First At-Bat for Texas Rangers
Carlos Gomez didn’t make the best impression on his former team, the Houston Astros, this 2016 season.
After batting .210 avg, 29 RBI’s, five HR’s, with questionable play at center field, the Astros decided they had enough. Houston requested unconditional release waivers for the former star, making him a free agent.
Gomez was picked up by the Texas Rangers on a minor league deal over the weekend, sending him down to Round Rock in the process. Now, in this topsy turvy season, he was called up to the majors to start.
Carlos was put eighth in the rotation, while also starting at left field. With two on base, Gomez hammered a three run homer against Cleveland Indians starter Josh Tomlin. It put the Rangers on the board in the second inning, 3-0.
Gomez spoke to The Dallas News saying “I have no hard feelings towards the Astros.” “I did not do my job, and they released me. I take it like a man.”
He sure did do his job tonight, and his new fans in Arlington, TX love him for it.
