Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing has agreed to a six-year contract extension with the team. Instead of testing free agency, the 26-year-old decided to commit to a long term contract with the Texans.
Cushing’s rookie contract, which he signed after being selected as the 15th pick in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft, is currently in its final season. Although he suffered a torn ACL in the fifth game of the 2012 season, the Texans are fully committed to Cushing, expecting his health will do nothing but improve in the future.
The Pro Bowl linebacker plays an integral role in the future of Wade Phillips’ defensive scheme with the Texans, complimenting Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt and cornerback Jonathan Joseph in the middle of the field.
The amount of money the contract is worth has not been released at this time. J.J. Watt is up for contract renewal next season.
