Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández was killed in a boating accident early Sunday morning.
The U.S Coast Guard reported that Fernández was one of three people killed in a boat crash of Miami Beach.
The Marlins released a statement saying “The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of José Fernández. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.”
The heartbreaking news led to the cancellation of today’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
The baseball community has sent their condolences to Fernández’s team and family:
It's been an emotional morning in the Cuban community. No matter what age, people are in total disbelief about Jose Fernandez's passing.
