Bob Costas Returns to Olympic Primetime, Not Fully Healed

Sportscaster Bob Costas, who has recently been battling an eye infection in both eyes, will be returning to his role as NBC’s prime time anchor for the 2014 Winter Olympics on Monday after missing six days of action.

While Costas is ready to come back as prime time host, he’s not fully healed. When the sportscaster called into the Today Show to announce his comeback he expressed, “I’m not 100 percent, that’s for sure, but it I waited until I was 100 percent, the Olympics would be over.”

During the sportscasters absence, the Today Show’s Matt Lauer took over Costas’ roll as prime time host four time, while Meredith Vieira of the Today Show stepped in twice, resulting in her being the first women to host NBC’s Olympics in prime time.

When Lauer stepped in for Costas on Tuesday night, it ended the reporter’s streak of 157 consecutive appearances as a prime time Olympic anchor.
