Astros Pitcher Ejected, Sent to Minors for Throwing at A-Rod

Brett Oberholtzer had a horrible Saturday.

After giving up 6 runs, including two home runs, in the first two innings of Saturday’s game against the New York Yankee’s Brett Oberholtzer lost his cool and his job as an Astros pitcher.

Oberholtzer served up a grand slam to Brian McCann and then a two run homer to Chris Young. Brett was understandably frustrated but made a horrible decision in venting those frustrations on Alex Rodriguez by throwing a pitch straight at the batter.

Oberholtzer was immediately ejected from the game for the attempt and following the game the Houston Astros announced that he would be optioned to Triple A Fresno.

The Astros have called up Michael Feliz to replace Oberholtzer. Houston called up Feliz on May 29 this season after Scott Feldman and Samuel Deduno each went on the disabled list. Feliz pitched in one inning, allowing zero runs, one hit, and striking out one. In June, he has a 1-2 record with a 4.42 ERA with 11 strikeouts and four walks with Double Corpus Christi.

When asked about being sent to the minor leagues Oberholtzer said “(The demotion) wasn’t too hard to deal with… It was probably just more so letting my team down.”

The Astros lost the Saturday game 9-6 but managed to recompose themselves for a 1-3 win Sunday afternoon.
