This year has been marred by terrible first pitches, but this one takes the cake! A Houston Astros fan threw what is being considered the worst first pitch of the year, if not of all time.
The pitch occurred during last night’s game at Minute Maid Park where the Houston Astros were playing the Oakland A’s. During the ceremonial first pitch, the fan was so excited to be on the mound that she forgot to let go of the ball before it was way too late, throwing the ball directly into the dirt below her.
One of the game’s announcers joked, “A slam dunk! She should throw out the first pitch for the Rockets.” Even the reaction of the Astros’ mascot, Orbit, was priceless!
Luckily, she was a good sport about it and ended up with a hug from Orbit and a signed ball.
