Analysts Predict Winner of Super Bowl 2015
It’s almost time for Super Bowl XLIX between New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, but which team will win and make history?
If the Patriots win, it would be their first Super Bowl win since the 2004 championship. It would also give New England quarterback Tom Brady his fourth Super Bowl ring. If the Seahawks win, they would become the NFL’s first back-to-back champions since the Patriots in 2004 and 2005. It would make Seattle the ninth team in league history to repeat.
Experts from all over seem to be split on who will take the championship ring this Sunday. Below are just a few of the Super Bowl predictions from various sports sites:
ESPN: 46 polled, 24 picked Seahawks, 22 picked Patriots
Ashley Fox, ESPN.com National NFL Writer
Seahawks 21, Patriots 20 — “The Seahawks believe in and play for each other, and that’s a powerful thing.”
Ron Jaworski, ESPN NFL Insider and former quarterback
Patriots 31, Seahawks 20 — “Tom Brady’s efficient passing and New England’s strong defense will be too much for the Seahawks to overcome.”
NFL.com: 14 polled, 8 picked Seahawks, 6 picked Patriots
Aditi Kinkhabwala, NFL.com
Seahawks 34, Patriots 31 — “Seattle has beaten every great quarterback and every great offense. They’re absurdly mentally resilient (as we saw against the Packers in the NFC title game), and even though I’m proposing such a high score, it’s still true: defense wins championships.”
Chris Wesseling, NFL.com
Patriots 23, Seahawks 20 — “Rob Gronkowski is the best player on the field, plain and simple.”
CBS Sports: 8 polled, 5 picked Seahawks, 3 picked Patriots
John Breech, CBS Sports NFL Writer
Seahawks 27, Patriots 20 — “The Patriots haven’t really been tested this season by a mobile quarterback — unless you count Ryan Tannehill, but I don’t count Ryan Tannehill because I never count Tannehill for anything. Anyway, Tannehill rushed for 317 yards in 2014, the most by any quarterback the Patriots played. I see Russell Wilson and his 849 rushing yards this season — the most by any quarterback in the NFL in 2014 — presenting plenty of problems for the Patriots. Yes, Bill Belichick will likely cook something up to slow Wilson down, but Marshawn Lynch will likely eat up whatever Belichick cooks and then spit it out to the tune of 129 yards and two touchdowns. In layman’s terms, I think the Patriots will struggle against the run and I think Beast Mode will go Beast Mode.”
Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports NFL Insider
Patriots 24, Seahawks 21 — “Don’t make Tom Brady angry. You wont like him when he’s angry. Not that the Pats needed any more motivation to win this game, but Deflategate gives Belichick’s boys even more motivation to go “us-against-the-world” and show that they don’t need no stinking soft balls to win football games. It will be a throwback game, I think, with the offensive and defensive lines carrying the day.”
