Adrian Peterson’s two-year-old son has passed away at a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. after being allegedly assaulted by 27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson. Patterson, the boyfriend of Peterson’s ex-girlfriend (and mother of his son), was charged with aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault earlier today. He could now be facing murder charges for the death of Peterson’s son.
As of 7:30PM on Thursday, the two-year-old was on life support, but his condition never improved. The decision was made to take the child off life support.
Patterson is expected to appear in court next on October 23. South Dakota State Attorney Thomas Wollman believes a grand jury indictment will appear before then.
“My office will be reviewing police reports and medical reports,” Wollman said. “There are other DUIs and assaults, but this is tops of the list. Very sad.”
