Aaron Hernandez Charged With Murder (Again)

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the July 2012 killings of two men in Boston.

These are new charges in addition to the one Hernandez is currently in jail awaiting trial for- the 2013 murder of semipro football player Odin Lloyd.

According to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley, a grand jury returned the indictment on Thursday. Hernandez is now charged in the shooting deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

“Mr. de Abreu and Mr. Furtado were ambushed and executed as they drove home along Shawmut Avenue in Boston’s South End in the early morning hours of July 16, 2012,” Conley said.

According to police documents, de Abreu and Furtado were shot while waiting at a red light in Boston’s South End neighborhood. The indictment mentions that Hernandez ran in to the two victims at a Boston nightclub. According to Conley, the encounter “triggered a series of events that ended in the murders.”

Hernandez was also charged with three counts of armed assault with intent to murder and one count of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

These new charges further paint the picture of an extremely violent past for Hernandez. A past that suggests Hernandez played his entire 2012 season after killing the two men.
