Zayn Malik’s ‘Pillowtalk’ Debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

Zayn Malik accomplished a feat that his former band, One Direction, has yet to achieve. His first single as a solo artist, “Pillowtalk,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The highest One Direction has reached on the chart was No. 2 with “Best Song Ever” in 2013.

“Pillowtalk,” which was penned by Zayn, Anthony and Michael Hannides and Levi Lennox, is the twenty-fifth song ever to debut at No. 1 on the chart. The achievement also marks the first time an artist whose name starts with “Z” has topped the chart.

“I am so happy to have my first number 1 in the U.K. and U.S.” Zayn said in a statement. “Thank you to all my fans and supporters, we have achieved this together and I am grateful.”

The song is Zayn’s first single from his upcoming album, Mind of Mine. The album is set to hit stores March 25th, the one year anniversary of when he left One Direction.
