Wiz Khalifa’s newly released music video honors the life of Paul Walker, with footage of the late actor as well as the six others from the past 14 years, all honoring his legacy.
The video for the rapper’s latest single “See You Again” is featured on the Furious 7 soundtrack, which debuted today (April 6th). The music video pays tribute to the actor, who tragically passed away in a car crash in 2013 at the age of 40.
“To have a song that’s earnest and sincere and could underscore a celebration of Paul’s life. To be an anthem for that. We worked really hard to dial that in,” Mike Knobloch, president of film music and publishing at Universal Pictures, told The Huffington Post.
Charlie Puth, who is featured on the track, took to his Twitter, writing, “7 million hits in 2 hours. i know you are watching down on all of us paul, the whole world is thinking of you.”
The music video comes three days after the debut of Furious 7, which dominated the box office, scoring a record-breaking $143.6 million in the U.S. Included in the clip is a link to Walker’s charity, Reach Out Worldwide. Thus far, the charity has raised over $400,000.
“This was a labor of love. It was in some ways the hardest movie I ever had to do because the relationships that you see on film are so real,” said Vin Diesel at a recent Furious 7 screening. “When the tragedy happened I lost my best friend, I lost my brother.”
He added: “Thanks for being my family. Thanks for always taking care of us. Thanks for believing in us. You know what’s most important in life. We made this movie from our hearts and know that this is our gift to you and more importantly, to my brother.”
