After wrapping up his Alpocalypse tour last summer, pop parodist “Weird Al” Yankovic returns next month with a brand-new album. The title and track list for the new record have not yet been released, but the “White & Nerdy” rapper announced on Saturday, June 14, that the album will be available worldwide on July 15.
The news of a Weird Al album comes with little surprise. Back in May, Patton Oswalt spilled the beans on Twitter, writing, “Just listened to @alyankovic’s upcoming album & I am in awe. He satirizes a band I’ve worshiped since the 90s & it…is…beautiful.”
As far as what to expect on the iconic parodist’s forthcoming album, there are a few clues. Earlier this week, a video showing Yankovic approaching Iggy Azalea backstage to ask permission to parody one of her songs emerged, so it’s highly possible one of her tracks will be featured on the currently-untitled album.
The upcoming release will stand as Yankovic’s 15th studio album and his first in three years. His last release, 2011’s Alpocalypse, debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, earning Yankovic his highest charting album ever with 44,001 copies sold in its first week.
