Eminem’s childhood home at 19946 Dresden in Detroit, MI is gone. The 767 square foot, 2 story home that was immortalized on the covers of Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 was demolished after being deemed unsafe to live in due to a fire that occurred at the residence on November 7th.
Michigan Land Bank, the state agency that owns the property, sent out a press release that explains why the property was demolished after an auction to sell the property failed:
The condition of the property post-fire presents a safety hazard that the Land Bank is responsible for removing. The goal is to demolish and clean up the site, so neighborhood safety and order can be restored.
Even though Eminem admitted in a recent interview with BBC One Radio’s Zane Lowe that he still visits the residence, he did not place a bid in the auction to save the property. One fan, Shelly Hazlett of Tennessee, submitted a $100 bid for the home so she could turn it into an Eminem museum if approved by the state. Apparently, her bid was declined. The property had a starting bid of only $1.
