The secret 31-track album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin by Wu-Tang Clan has revealed one of their guest appearances for their upcoming album. Cher, the Goddess of Pop, is featured in one of the tracks in the upcoming Wu-Tang Clan album, which it’s only copy will be auctioned off and not commercially released to the public.
Zack O’Malley Greenberg, a writer for Forbes magazine, visited Wu-Tang Clan producer Tarik “Cilvaringz” Azzougarh in Marrakesh, Morocco where he was the first person to listen to a clip of a track on the secret album. Azzougarh allowed Greenberg to record one song on-camera , but wouldn’t tell him what the name of the song was. The snippet of the song played on camera features Ghostface Killah rhyming and rapping over pounding drums, sounds of sirens with a strong female vocal in the background. At the end of the track you hear a female vocal sing “Wu-Tang, baby. They rock the world.” The vocals are identified as Cher singing at the end of that track after Azzougarh asks Greenberg “that voice sound familiar?”
Cher has contributed vocals to two songs on Once Upon a Time in Shaolin and recorded her parts separately for the collaboration. In March the album’s website only noted that it “includes special guest appearances by Bonnie Jo Mason” and never noted that Cher was also appearing on some tracks. Before the album is sold to its highest bidder, which already has an offer for $5 million, it will be toured across the world’s museums, galleries and festivals, using headphones to protect the songs from piracy when the public has a chance to listen to the album.
