Bruno Mars took the stage to perform his jazzy new single “Gorilla” at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 25).
Moments after winning his first-ever Moonman for Best Male Video for “Locked Out Of Heaven,” Mars invaded the stage to perform the new single for the first time. The VMA-winning singer performed the new tune while wearing a leopard-print button-down while blasts of fire and neon-green lights danced around him.
Selena Gomez welcomed the 27-year-old singer to the stage, telling the room he “brings the house down every time he performs.” That’s precisely what the “Just The Way You Are” singer did. Accompanied by a horn section, Mars slowed things down with his R&B track, marking one of the night’s most sensual performances.
Although Mars performed that Unorthodox Jukebox single during the VMAs, he was nominated four times for two other singles off his 2012 album release, “Locked Out Of Heaven” (Video of the Year, Best Male Video and Best Pop Video) and “Treasure” (Best Choreography).
“Gorilla” is the fourth single off Unorthodox Jukebox, which dropped last December.
