Car service Uber has confirmed that they are partnering with streaming service Spotify to provide users with a whole new riding experience!
The collaboration will be launching in compatible cars starting November 21st in 10 cities – New York, London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Nashville, Singapore, Stockholm, Toronto and Sydney. Artists such as Diplo, Kevin Drew, Andrew W.K., Matt and Kim, and more will participate in live sessions and ride-alongs in some of these cities.
In order to use the service, riders will need to connect their Spotify Premium account to their Uber profile. If they are matched to Spotify-enabled Ubers, the vehicle will then arrive with their favorite tunes already playing before they’ve even sat down. For those who don’t have a Spotify Premium account, have no fear – you can receive a free trial to test of the service in Uber vehicles.
“It’s the first time we’ve personalized the experience inside the car,” Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said. “For music lovers, it’s nirvana.”
The car service believes that the partnership will enhance its users’ experience, taking their ride “to the next level.” Customers will be able to choose their preferred soundtrack, which can ultimately entice Spotify users to choose Uber over other competitors (i.e. Lyft and traditional taxis).
Kalanick dismissed the idea that Uber drivers would be upset by having to endure customer’s interesting music tastes. He explained that drivers would remain in control of the music if they choose to opt in the service; if not, they will still have the ability to opt out. “If somebody comes in with death metal and wants it really loud, the driver has control of how loud it will be,” he said.
