After months of speculation between fans and industry insiders, U2 announced on Wednesday their follow-up to the highly successful 360° Tour.
The U2 Innocence + Experience Tour 2015 will begin in May and take the Irish rock band around the world to 44 shows in 19 cities. The first leg of the tour includes 22 shows across North America in Vancouver, San Jose, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Montreal, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, and ending at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Every city will have at least double booking, with Los Angeles and New York having four shows a piece.
After finishing their North American stint in July, U2 will embark on the European leg of their Innocence + Experience Tour on September 4 in Turin, Italy. Like in the U.S., every city will have a minimum of two shows, with London’s O2 arena playing host to four.
According to Billboard Boxscore, U2 is the top touring act in the world over the past 30 years. The band has sold over 22.8 million tickets at 625 shows to gross $1.5 billion at the box office. The band’s last tour, U2 360° from 2009-2011, was the largest tour in history. Over 110 shows across the globe the band sold 7.2 million tickets for a gross total of $736.4 million, both all-time records. Therefore, when it comes to U2, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the band extends Innocence + Experience for another two to three years for runs in Asia, South America, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Australia, before returning to North America and Europe for a second time.
Irregardless of a tour extension, expect the arenas below to be sold out within minutes. Pricing is expected to follow the historical U2 model with cheap seats starting at $30, floor tickets priced at $65 and prime seats priced around $250-$275.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on December 8, but if you’re a member of their fan club you can purchase tickets as soon as December 4.
