The Flaming Lips Plan to Perform the Most Shows in 24 Hours

The Flaming Lips are currently planning to beat Jay-Z’s Guinness Book world record for the most live concerts in a 24 hour period.

Jay-Z set the record at seven cities on November 18, 2006 by performing in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

The Flaming Lips are planning to perform in eight cities on June 27th.  The group plan to stream each city’s concert live.

While Jay-Z set the record by flying, The Flaming Lips have decided to break the record by traveling through the Mid-South on a tour bus.

“Like when the Sex Pistols did their one and only American tour, the weird mid-south (Memphis to New Orleans) has something very absurd about it when contrasted with radical visionary musicians,” frontman Wayne Coyne told Rolling Stone. “I’ve accepted the job of, not DRIVING, but commandeering the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster bus.”
