Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ Ties ‘Fearless’ Success on Billboard 200

This week, Taylor Swift’s latest album 1989 reigns at the top of the Billboard 200 chart for an eleventh non-consecutive week, tying her career high set by her sophomore album Fearless back in 2008 and 2009.

1989 has been out for almost four months and continues to be a top seller. The album has been on the charts for fifteen weeks. For the four weeks it wasn’t at No. 1, it was in the No. 2 spot.

According to Billboard, only four albums since 2000 have been No. 1 for ten or more weeks: 1989, Fearless, the Frozen soundtrack (13 weeks) and Adele’s 21 (24 weeks).

In addition, Swift has joined Whitney Houston as the only women to have multiple albums hit No. 1 for at least ten weeks.

Coming in behind 1989 on the chart this week, the compilation album Now 53 debuted with 99,000 copies sold. At No. 3 was Ed Sheeran’s x with 97,000 units. Sam Smith, who was a major winner at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, remains steady at No. 4 with In the Lonely Hour. Fifth Harmony’s debut album Reflection entered the chart at No. 5.
