Spotify is crossing over to a bigger screen in Netflix’s upcoming series about the popular music app. Netflix confirms that production for the series is already in process and will arrive in 2022 according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Swedish start-up that has changed the way people listen to music is the main focus of the series. From how young entrepreneur Daniel Ek and his partners came up with the idea to offer free and legal music services globally to their entire journey with Spotify’s launch, record labels and public conflicts. The series is inspired by the book, “Spotify Untold” by authors Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud.
The Netflix series will also include the rivalry between Spotify and Apple, intimidation threats from Steve Jobs about the U.S. launch of the streaming service, how Spotify came to take over the music industry, and much more making for a worthy binge-watching show.
The cast will include Edvin Endre as Daniel Ek (Vikings) and Ulf Stenberg as music managing director Per Sundin. It will be directed by Per-Olav Sørensen and written for screen by Christian Spurrier.
