Scotty McCreery, the American Idol Season 10 winner, is facing a lawsuit from his former manager, Todd Cassetty, who claims he hasn’t been paid for services rendered.
In the lawsuit filed against the 19-year-old singer, Cassetty wrote that “celebrities should be required to pay their bills, just like anyone else.” McCreey fired back to allegations with his own statement saying Cassetty’s claims are “lies” and that he is looking forward to facing him in court.
Todd Cassetty had signed McCreery as a client in October 2012 after McCreery fulfilled his post-Idol contractual obligation to management company XIX Entertainment.
In his lawsuit, Cassetty claims that McCreery had said he would sign with Cassetty’s new label and that the singers mother, Judy McCreery, sent Cassetty an email saying that he was “unofficially official” as McCreery’s new manager. Cassetty also claims that in the e-mail from Judy McCreery that he would be compensated at the “industry standard” rate of 15-20 percent. The suit further claims that Judy then offered him just 2 percent of gross revenue. The allegations between McCreey and Cassetty were never formalized in writing.
McCreery claims that he offered to pay Cassetty many times, but that his former manager “wanted an unreasonable amount for only five months of work.”
“There is no truth to these allegations,” says McCreery. “I have offered to pay Todd more than once, but he wanted an unreasonable amount for only five months of work. Anyone who knows me knows how I conduct myself, so I am not worried they will believe any of this. This is just an attempt to embarrass me and my family. The facts will come out when we have our day in court.”
