As the release date for Sam Smith’s debut LP In the Lonely Hour creeps closer, anticipation for its arrival is growing.
After being introduced to the U.K. through hits like Disclosure’s dance track “Latch” and Naughty Boy’s smash single “La La La,” fans are becoming antsy and eager to hear more from the newborn artist. Thankfully, the British singer-songwriter is sharing In the Lonely Hour early, streaming the album in full over at NPR.
Lyrically, In the Lonely Hour focuses on unrequited love. “It’s about a guy and that’s what I wanted people to know – I want to be clear that that’s what it’s about,” said Smith about the album’s emotive subject matter. “I want to make it a normality because this is a non-issue. People wouldn’t ask a straight person these questions. I’ve tried to be clever with this album, because it’s also important to me that my music reaches everybody. I’ve made my music so that it could be about anything and everybody – whether it’s a guy, a female or a goat – and everybody can relate to that.”
Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour, which features “Money on My Mind” and the irresistible power-ballad “Like I Can,” will be available worldwide on June 17. You can stream the album ahead of its release here.
