Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2014 Inductees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially revealed that Nirvana, Kiss, Hall & Oates, Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt and Cat Stevens will be immortalized with the music industry’s highest honor next year.

The grunge and glam rockers were chosen by more than 700 artist, historians and music industry professionals who are a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.  The 2014 inductees will receive an exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum located in Cleveland, Ohio.

For a second year, the Rock Hall has implemented fan voting to help determine this year’s honorees.  The five artists with the highest number of votes made up a fans’ ballot, which counted as a single vote in the choosing of this year’s inductees.

Among the fans, Kiss received 239,000 votes while Nirvana earned 218,000. Despite public support, two bands that failed to receive an induction were Yes with 151,000 votes and Deep Purple with 166,000.  Both Deep Purple and Yes had more fan votes than new inductees Hall & Oates (113,000), Peter Gabriel (111,000), Linda Ronstadt (85,000) and Cat Stevens (75,000).

The 29th annual induction ceremony will take place on April 10th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and for the first time, the ceremony will be open for the public.  HBO will air the event as a special in May.
