Kanye West’s Yeezus teased listeners when providing quality without quantity. The album held a lonely 10-tracks, including closer “Bound 2” which features Charlie Wilson vocals and grainy soul samples. Sadly, that track presented a curtain call, but super producer Rick Rubin has fans hoping for an encore.
According to Rubin, who worked alongside the “New Slaves” rapper on Yeezus, there may be a Yeezus sequel. When asked if there would be a second Yeezus album, Rubin cautiously replied, “might be.”
“Initially, [Kanye] thought there were going to be 16 songs on the album,” Rubin told the Daily Beast. “But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, ‘Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half.’”
Kanye excitedly replied, “That’s what I came here today to hear! It could be 10 songs!”
The odds for another Yeezus are high. West took Rubin’s first piece of advice, listing only 10 tracks on Yeezus. Let’s hope he takes the legendary producer’s second piece of advice as well.
Yeezus debuted atop the Billboard 200 with 327,000 units sold (according to Nielsen Soundscan), making it the third-largest sales week of the year.
