Record-Breaking 55.7 Million Digital Songs Sold Last Week

Last week was the largest digital song sales week of all time when consumers purchased a record-breaking 55.74 million digital songs.  The new record surpasses the previous by over 8 million.  Online retailers are thanking gift cards for the increase in sales.

Taylor Swift lead the pack with her single “I Knew You Were Trouble.”  Her single sold over 582,000 copies last week, making it the fourth-largest sales week ever.

Bruno Mar’s “Lock Out of Heaven” came in second with 479,000 copies sold, even though it had a 120% increase in sales.

Here’s a look at the top 10 digital songs sold last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan:

  1. Taylor Swift “I Knew You Were Trouble” – 582,000 copies
  2. Bruno Mars “Locked Out of Heaven” – 497,000 copies
  3. PSY “Gangnam Style” – 400,000 copies
  4. Justin Bieber ft. Nicki Minaj “Beauty and a Beat” – 372,000 copies
  5. Rihanna “Diamonds” – 365,000 copies
  6. The Lumineers “Ho Hey” – 304,000 copies
  7. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis “Thrift Shop” – 304,000 copies
  8. Ke$ha “Die Young” – 299,000 copies
  9. will.i.am & Britney Spears “Scream & Shout” – 285,000 copies
  10. Phillip Phillips “Home” – 281,000 copies
