There is buzz in the entertainment world that Pink Floyd may reunite for the 2012 Olympics in London. The band last performed together at Live 8 in 2005, their first public appearance in 20 years.
An insider close to the London Evening Standard stated: “Its long been made clear it would take something very special to get Pink Floyd back together again and it doesn’t get any bigger than the Olympics.”
“Like Sir Paul [McCartney, who is tipped to open the event], they have been a major part of the nation’s culture over the past 40 years and it will be very fitting that they’re involved when London is on show to the world. It’s hoped everything can be confirmed in the coming weeks.”
In May 2011 former band members Roger Waters, Nick Mason and David Gilmour briefly reunited at Roger Water’s solo concert at London’s The O2.
After the reunion Nick Mason announced that a reunion would have to be “a grander version of Live 8, driven by someone even more major than Bob Geldof.” David Gilmour dismissed the reunion as “most definitely a one-off.”
