Pharrell Turning Hit Song ‘Happy’ Into Children’s Book

Pharrell William’s Grammy winning song “Happy” will be published into a children’s book.

“Happy,” originally produced for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, became a world-wide sensation in 2013 and 2014 when the song was featured as the lead single for Pharrell’s second studio album, Girl. “Happy” would go on to win two Grammy awards for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video in 2015.

Pharrell has now signed a deal with Putnam Books, a division of Penguin Young Readers, to publish a series of picture books for kids. His first book titled Happy, inspired by the song’s positive message, will be published into 250,000-copies this fall. The book will feature pictures of children from around the world “celebrating what it means to be happy,” Putnam said in a statement.

“I’m humbled by the global success of ‘Happy,’ but especially in awe of the song’s young fans,” Williams said in a statement. “My collaboration with Penguin allows me to continue a dialogue with these children in a fresh, new way. We’re both committed to feeding the curiosity of young minds with imagination.”

Pharrell is planning to publish a total of four children’s books with Penguin Young Readers.
