Artist and producer Pharrell Williams has many reasons to be happy this week, his Oscar-nominated single “Happy” has hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Happy” rose 2-1 beating Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” featuring Juicy J which dominated the Billboard chart the past four weeks. According to Nielsen SoundScan, “Happy” sold 402,000 downloads this past week, making it the largest sales week for a song outside the Christmas season since Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” last September.
This becomes Pharrell’s first solo #1 hit, but it is not the first time he’s topped the chart. Pharrell was a featured artist on Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” Ludacris’ “Money Maker,” and was recently featured on with Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” with T.I.
Pharrell will perform his hit single “Happy” this Sunday at the 86th Annual Academy Awards. His sophomore album G I R L goes on sale Monday, March 3rd.
